For furniture with wrinkled leather, use a blow dryer.

Frequent users of leather furniture, such as office chairs or couches in living rooms, may notice wrinkles in addition to obvious wear over time. Known as "comfort wrinkles," they're probably not the style you had in mind when you chose to buy leather furniture. They can vary in size from small rippling to more noticeable creases.

Thankfully, a blow dryer can assist you in getting the smooth appearance of your cushions back. What you should know is as follows.

What causes leather furniture to wrinkle?

While looking for a leather couch or chair, you could notice that some are looser and not quite as taut, while others are softer and have smoother, tighter-looking leather. More pliable leather with some give is typically used to make furniture that is both more comfortable to sit on and less likely to wrinkle. Furthermore, leather ages naturally with wrinkles, just like human skin.

How to make leather furniture look smooth and free of creases.

While it's perfectly normal for leather to wrinkle and you should leave it that way, if you'd rather a smoother seat, follow these instructions:.

Use a clean cloth dampened with a solution of warm water and mild dish soap, or a specific leather cleanser, to gently clean the creases in the sofa or chair. Before drying the areas you've cleaned with a fresh cloth or towel, thoroughly rinse them with a second clean cloth that has been dampened with warm, clean water. After turning it on, adjust the blow dryer to the highest setting. To ensure that the hair dryer is never blowing directly on a single spot for longer than a few seconds, point it at one of the wrinkled areas, about eight to ten inches away from the leather. Move the hair dryer around that section constantly. Keep blow-drying that area of the leather until the heat starts to iron out the wrinkles. It might take a few minutes for each section.

Turn off the hair dryer once the smoothness is to your satisfaction. And you might as well condition the leather to complete the makeover of the furniture now that it's clean and tightened up.
