Every New AI Feature on Google Maps.

You can test out the six new AI features that Google recently announced this week in Google Maps.

Perhaps artificial intelligence is more than just a fad; at least, Google and other tech companies are rushing to incorporate AI features into their products. The product, Bard, is the company's response to ChatGPT and has integrations with Google products, including Gmail, YouTube, and Docs.

Google has announced six new AI features coming to Google Maps, including the ability to search for visual landmarks, augmented reality searching, and the introduction of Immersive View for Routes. It appears that Maps is the latest Google product to fall victim to the AI bug.

Visual Exploration.

A new feature of Google Maps called Visual Search uses user-shared photos to provide results for broader search queries. To get relevant images from nearby locations, you can, for instance, search for "street art" in Google Maps. Google Maps will search for photos that match the description of "animal latte art" if you want to locate a coffee shop that does it.

According to Google, this feature will be available this week on both iOS and Android.

Examine by Subject.

Your usual Google Maps search results will soon change when you perform a search. This is a result of Google employing AI to categorize search results into various themes. You should be able to concentrate on more pertinent results when you come across a list that aligns with your interests because the purpose of this is to group various result types together in thematic lists. To view these results later, you can also save them to lists.

Comprehensive View for Navigation.

My personal favorite is probably this one: Google is utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to combine billions of Street View photos to produce an interactive map of any location. When you request cycling, walking, or driving directions, all of which use formerly-available Street View data, you can experience a destination, including things like traffic simulations and weather effects. This feature, which Google first revealed at I/O 2023, is now live this week.

transporting and navigating.

I'm excited to announce that you will soon be able to navigate with more realistic buildings and highway lanes. Directions are easier to follow when they are more accurately depicted on the maps. In addition, you will be able to observe the speed limits in 20 more countries along with the presence of HOV lanes on the route.

Information on EV chargers.

A new Google Maps update should help you along your route if you drive an electric vehicle. You can find out from Google Maps if a charger is compatible with your car, when it was last used, and how quickly or slowly it charges. This should help, as Google reports that 25% of EV chargers in the US are unavailable at any given time. Google didn't say how AI is used in these features specifically, but it might combine information from reviews and station sites with data intelligently pulled from other drives.

Extension of Google Lens.

Google is launching "Google Lens in Maps," a new name for "Search with Live View," in 53 additional cities. Your phone can be raised to point at objects around you if you tap the Lens icon. Thereafter, Google Maps will provide you with more information about the items you can see, like ATMs, stores, restaurants, and public transportation, saving you the trouble of doing separate searches.

Austin, Las Vegas, São Paulo, Taipei, and Rome are among the new cities supported by this feature.
